And it looks like the rumour is actually true! I'm sure she'll be ace. But not necessarily Sophie Aldred's Ace.
That Tricky RTD.

It still doesn't excuse the sloppy state of journalism these days though.

I've witnessed journalists persuading fans to 'act up' for the cameras so as to make them appear even more "weird" and "kooky". Sadly, there will always be certain fans at conventions all too willing to comply.

On a wider scale, it bothers me that just about everything I've ever been personally involved in (not just SF) that has been reported by the news media has included incorrect facts and/or wrong names, so it really makes me despair for the acuracy of news reporting in general.

As depressing as it sounds, maybe we shouldn't be surprised. This is the same media that on covering SF conventions will automatically train its cameras and microphones on THAT subset of fandom... you know the one I'm talking about <:/

Stuff.co.nz is indeed looking stupid, and so are a whole swag of other news media around the world. It's indicative of the lazy state of journalism these days that news stories concocted from the flimiest of rumours will be picked up and run by the news media without any fact-checking or additional research.

I remember a few years ago the news reports on an Auckland radio station that Doctor Who was about to return to TV with a new Doctor and that the opening scenes were going to be filmed in New Zealand, on location at Ruapehu. After a few moments of incredulity it dawned on me that they were actually referring to Scream of the Shalka!

Interesting. According to OG, Rusty has refuted the Kylie claim. Whether or not that's true at this stage is I guess open to interpretation. BUt it doesn't half make the likes of Stuff.co.nz ('Kylie cast in new Dr Who story') look stupid.

Kylie as a female Ice Warrior? Lots of make up a la Sarah Parish, Mars mentioned twice in previous Christmas specials...news that she is going to be a Cyberwoman to throw us off the scent - it all fits - and if it doesn't just use a bigger hammer.
