Rory has the great line here – “Stop trying to turn me into you”, directed at the Doctor. As palpable a kernel of where this series might be headed if some of its contributors (Gareth Roberts) appear to be claiming. The Doctor sets himself up as the man who can face down any enemy and make the most difficult, and in this case, coldest decisions. But there have to be consequences. Lake Silencio is presumably part of this, but the awkward silence (there’s that word again, sorry) at the end of this story is another, and for me it speaks volumes.

Reckon there might be a flip side to the Rose Tyler : Earth Defence model of NuWho companionship, and that’s Rory. They can’t all want to set the cosmos right with a big gun in hand.
